Discrimination

April 12, 2016
My flat mate has attended two appointments in the course of two weeks with two different doctors and both have been discriminatory to him about certain tests. I would never expect a GP of any standing to turn round and say to someone 'if the infection doesn't clear we will do blood tests for HIV.' Just because he is clearly a gay person, I do not think they have the right to assume that is the reason for him being sick. I doubt that they would say that exact sentence to a heterosexual person do I dont see why they can just state that to a homosexual person, I'm disgusted that two GP's have said it now and I've told my friend to leave your practice as its disgusting behaviour and I would never expect it from a GP. I will be taking this matter to the CQC to involve them in this matter as it is out of order.

Dear patient

Thank you for your feedback, I am sorry to read that you were unhappy with the service provided at Bath Row Medical Practice.

The CQC doesn't manage individual complaints about GPs and their service and will advise you, as per the information they provide on their website that in the first instance the service provider (Bath Row Medical Practice) should be contacted and their internal complaints procedure should be followed. If you are not happy with our response you then have the right to contact the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO).

To investigate the complaint further and in full could you please kindly ask your flatmate to visit the practice and complete a formal complaint form (which is available from reception) in as much detailed as possible, providing the names of the GP's who were involved. If you would like to complete this form on your flatmates behalf, for confidentiality reasons we need to know that you have their permission to do so. A signature from the patient on the complaint form will be required. For more information on the practice complaint procedure please visit: http://www.bathrowmedicalpractice.co.uk/practice-policies.aspx?t=5

Once again, I am sorry you and your flatmate feel that the service provided has not been good enough, I look forward to receiving the complaint form so I can investigate this matter in full and provide a response.
