Right to Respond

As part of our commitment to providing an honest and transparent view of health and social care services, Healthwatch Birmingham encourages providers to respond to comments the public have left.

Alongside ensuring providers can have a fair say in discussions about their services, replying to reviews demonstrates evidence of responding to patient feedback for the CQC, who regularly monitor our Feedback Centre. It is also an effective way to recruit service users for any wider engagement work at your organisation.

Guidelines for provider responses:

  • Keep language appropriate and civil
  • Remain professional and treat people’s comments fairly
  • Engage with the content of the review by addressing specific points and avoid cut and pasting a standard response
  • Don’t disclose the service user’s personal details or any potentially identifying information
  • Where appropriate leave organisational contact details e.g PALS or patient engagement teams for people to get further information

Remember: your response will be seen by everyone who uses the Feedback Centre, not just the original reviewer. All responses are moderated in accordance with our moderation policy.

The doctors are no longer seeing patients

The drs are no longer seeing patients yet the receptionists send out texts to make appointments, but you only get to speak to a triage nurse, who doesn’t look at your records. I have really bad piles and consequently have to take dolculax every day, I have been having the capsules for more years than I can remember, then they got that bad with bleeding I had to have extra help with suppositories and extra laxatives which my gp gave me on prescription (I’m 68). But when I asked for a repeat prescription, I was told by the triage nurse that I would have to purchase these from the chemist has the drs no longer prescribed laxatives on prescription Funny, I still get my repeat every month and guess what yes I have 100 dolculax capsules. I really don’t get it, I could really do with seeing a gp face to face for them to let me know that I haven’t got anything underlying had I’ve been suffering for over 12 months now.
