Appointment to access GP

March 8, 2022
Since the covid 19 it’s extremely difficult to obtain a appointment to seek help from
The GP.
Some time it takes more than 2 weeks to obtain a appointment.
With in the first 10 minutes the receptionist are saying all the appointments have been given out.
I have experienced this problem myself on number of occasions and what about the elderly disabled and people who can’t speak the language
I strongly think patients should be able to walk in to obtain a appointment.
This is issue effecting the community across the board and should be addressed asap.
I worked all my life for the community and I do understand their concerns.
I would request you to try and ring the GP surgery anonymously for appointment and you will see the difficulty obtaining the appointment.

GPs are not as great as they used to be

October 8, 2018
The GP services have become poor over the years. They are not as great as they used to be. Everything is limited – you can only have a ten minute appointment, only one issues per appointment, and it takes long to book appointments. The time limit on appointments makes you fearful to disclose other illnesses because you can only share one. This is the same in hospitals. Sometimes, it can make you feel worse – you are not heard or listened to.

The personal relationship that used to be there between the Doctor and patient is no longer there. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone because it is a mental issue rather than a physical issue.

Now they have cut out a lot of prescriptions such as medication for eczema. That is not very fair, especially in a deprived area. It seems everyone is being treated the same. The patient- doctor relationship is not there.

People have lost faith in GPs. Nowadays, I wait until my GP is closed and use out of hours and I always get an appointment. The problem is that they are just moving the burden to other services.

GPs are the biggest link between families and the health. If you cannot trust the GP, how can you trust the hospital.

A mircocosm of everything wrong with the NHS

February 12, 2018
Let me begin this review by pointing out that my entire family was previously registered to this surgery for over two decades, mainly out of the convenience of it being nearby to where we live. This review is based on many years worth of personal experience. I recently left this surgery in September 2017 due to finally being fed up with the place, and feeling that I had nothing left to lose by joining another surgery.

This is easily the worst GP surgery that I have ever had the displeasure of being registered with. There are a number of things wrong with this place, enough to fill an entire three hundred page book.

The surgery never opens its doors on time, so it’s pointless going early for an appointment because you’ll be waiting outside in the rain for someone to finally arrive.

The staff receptionists are extremely rude and unprofessional. They are very slow, and appear to lack even the most basic communication and organizational skills necessary for working in a medical environment. The ladies at the desk seem to be perpetually distracted.

Even a basic task (such as booking an agreed appointment time with a doctor) seems to be a herculean task for the receptionists in this surgery. They fail to correctly book your appointment at the agreed date and time. On numerous occasions, I have had an appointment pre-agreed, only to later be told that the date or time is wrong, or that they have no record of such an appointment. This has happened often, both to myself, family members, and other patients (including neighbours) who have been registered patients at this particular practice. This is especially frustrating when you have to take time off work, only to turn up at the surgery and be told that they can’t see you.

When you ring them up to make an appointment, they often fail to pick up the phone, even if someone is there (you’ll see proof of this when you’re in the waiting area, the phone rings and rings, but the receptionists either take ages to pick up the phone or don’t even bother). Even if the fault rests entirely with them and they screwed up your appointment time, they will insist that the fault is somehow yours, and that they have no record of you making an appointment with them, even if you did.

The appalling unprofessionalism, and the lack of basic record keeping is embarrassing, not to mention genuinely dangerous for the patients that are registered members of the surgery.

The waiting area is very small so it always feels crowded even at the best of times. The seating arrangement is somewhat cramped, but this is mostly to do with the limited space in the waiting area.

One of the things that you will notice whilst patiently whistling away the time in the waiting area is how hollow the walls of the private rooms are. You can hear entire conversations between a doctor and patient through the walls. If you don’t want your fellow patients to know about your sexual health problems, or any health problem for that matter, then this surgery isn’t for you. Your entire dialogue with the doctor can easily be heard by others, even if there are noisy children in the waiting area. This is a serious problem, and although it seems to be a problem with most surgeries, the problem is particularly bad at this place. There really is no genuine privacy to be had, which makes a mockery of the patient-doctor confidentiality agreement that has been standard practice across our healthcare system for as long as I can remember. This is a seriously neglected major issue that needs to be confronted by the NHS at large.

Now, on to the doctors.

It has been my general impression over the years here, that the vast majority of the doctors appear to be lacking in basic communication skills, empathy. They appear to be more interested in ticking the right boxes on their computer software than in listening to your health problems or meaningfully diagnosing your symptoms. The nurses are a little better, although even the nurses can seem a bit inattentive and preoccupied at times.

If you happen to see Dr then be prepared to be told that you should ‘take a paracetamol’ regardless of what your problems are. The doctors here seem extremely reluctant to refer you to the hospital, even if your condition is dire and in need of urgent medical attention. They are also very stingy with giving out antibiotics, so expect to encounter problems from them, even when you have the flu and you know that antibiotics is the obvious solution. Another issue is the reluctance of the doctors here to make house visits. I ended up making multiple trips to A&E with different family members, because the doctors refused to make a home visit to see a family member who was immobile and couldn’t physically walk.

There is a pharmacy connected to the surgery. Although at first glance this seems very convenient for patients, the pharmacy has an awful reputation for not sending repeat prescriptions over to patients on time. They’ve even been known on occasion to send over the wrong prescription. They also never ask you for your age, or if you’re entitled to receive free medication. My mother paid for her expensive repeat prescriptions for over a year here even though she is over sixty — only later was she informed that she shouldn’t have been paying anything for her medication and was entitled to it free of charge.

To summarise, this surgery is a microcosm for everything that’s wrong with healthcare in the UK. Avoid this place like the plague, if you know what’s good for you.
