I did my student work experience placement.
July 15, 2019
On the 7th of May 2019, I started my work experience placement at the Perry Tree Centre and it was fantastic. I saw how the staff (who were amazing) treated the service users and how they went about their day. It was evident that they cared for them and wanted them to have the best possible experience at the center. I also saw how medicine was administrated to the service users and how their meals were prepared. The staff and the manager work hard day and night to ensure that they have the most comfortable time and they provide the patients with activities such as trips out and games to play inside. The NHS unit upstairs is also brilliant and they make sure that the patients are well looked after. Overall I would like to thank the manager for giving me a brilliant opportunity and experience and I would definitely recommend the Centre if anyone needed care or treatment!
Mom has received very good, quality care!

Mom has been at the Perry Tree Centre for 18 months now and during this time has received very good, quality care from the Manager and all his team of staff there. They work hard to provide for the individual needs of the residents and certainly deserve their overall rating of GOOD from the Care Quality Commission (please see their website for a full report). The staff although very busy, look after mom very well. (For which we are really grateful!) The residents own rooms are very nice. The food is good, she enjoys plenty of various drinks to keep her hydrated and nourished. There are activities at the centre for residents to join in if they wish. Mom has recently enjoyed several trips out with kind, caring staff (which we are really pleased about). Thank you to all the staff who have been involved in this! Overall, mom has received very good, quality care during her time there and I would recommend the centre and it's team of staff.

It reached well above my expectations

I was expecting the facilities to be basic but it reached well above my expectations.
I am happy to send this review on behalf of my father who resides at Peartree Home.
My father celebrated his 100th Birthday on Thursday 6 June 2019. I was very happy for the Reception and for the Celebration Party that was put on for him, myself and all his family was very surprised for such a beautiful turnout.

My mother was transferred to perry tree at the beginning of the year. Delighted with the care she is receiving and very happy with the treatment she receives for her skin condition on her legs.

I attended a staff forum as part of the ENRICH (enabling Research in Care Homes) initiative as Perry Trees is 'research ready'. The emphasis was on staff well being. I observed a caring attitude and listening culture.

I have to let you and everyone know about the innovative work at Perry Tree Centre and the positive effect that it is having on both the Patient and her family.
My mother was diagnosed with dementia 7 years ago. Her condition has some what worsened over the last 12 months and the local mental health team have been monitoring her behaviour to see if they are able to help medically and have tried different medication with no real affect other than reducing her quality of life.
It was discussed that the next stage for my mother was a nursing home where they would be able to sedate her to stop her being a risk to herself and others. This has had a negative affect on me and I have been unable to accept that there is nothing more I can do. So as a consequence I have distanced myself from her because I have been finding it hard to cope emotionally.
However the team had not given up:
I was called into a meeting and from the phone call I could sense their excitement about what they have achieved. The System was explained to me and I was excited to see my mother. They have devised a system using wireless headphones streaming music via tablet device. How could something so simple work so effectively. I walked onto the ward and there she was. She looked at me with the head phones on and gave me a massive smile, One that showed me that she knew who I was type of smile, which was amazing. I watched her for a while she was calm with no distress. (Where before she would just scream and shout for no apparent reason holding her head. Very distressing to see)
Then the miracle happened she sat down with her head phones on listening to her music (My mom hasn’t spoke to me in 3 years) she looked me in the eyes and told me that she loves me. WOW!!!!! What an amazing Christmas present. I can’t tell you how it made me feel. XXX Joyful tears XXX
Perry Tree is a specialist dementia unit and are at the forefront of innovative research and care for dementia patients.
This program/training and research needs to be rolled out across the country to help others. I have seen the positive affects of this treatment.
