Mental health support

January 5, 2025
I was diagnosed with depression at the age of 21 and immediately prescribed antidepressants. 3 GPs over the course of a year prescribed antidepressants without informing first about psychotherapy. Since medication did not get to the root of problem I was left for years not knowing what psychotherapy was. If the waiting lists for psychotherapy were too long, they should have provided me the the correct advice and strongly advised me to seek a professional Psychotherapist privately. I understand GPs have 10 minutes per patient and do not have sufficient time and psychotherapy skills To assess patients. But they should be giving the general public the correct advice. I get the impression the had a knowledge deficit about dealing with depression and anxiety. The first doctor claimed that prescribing prozac in America was very common and had no problem with prescribed this medication to me in England even though it has side effects.

Horrendous

The doctors were awful in helping me recover with my addiction, the mental health service lag is also horrendous causing detrimental effects.

Good GP

Quite good. Appointments can take a long time, they make you wait. A very good GP when you do get to see him though.

Took them 3 months to refer me

June 24, 2024
I see a different GP every time. It took them 3 months for a referral to the hospital. I call them for appointments and I can't get one.

No recollection of medication

June 4, 2024
The GP prescribed a cream to apply in January and when I went to reorder it they had no recollection of the order and had to get it prescribed again.

It's a very busy practice but still able to get an appointment when needed. The GPs, nurses and the reception staff are all friendly and helpful.

Not pointed in the right direction.

They are obligated to talk to you about mental health but don't really help you. I feel like nobody there will tell you what to do or point you in the right direction for appropriate services.
