Waiting times are a lot

January 15, 2020
My daughter caught an infection herpes she has eczema, doctor diagnosed straight away. I came at 10 am she didn’t get medication till 6pm. Waiting times are a lot. Experiences with nurses – some very helpful and good with my child. One nurse was not helpful.

The staff were helpful and attentive

January 15, 2020
My granddaughter was admitted to the burn unit. The staff were helpful and attentive. My granddaughter was seen promptly and we continued to attend weekly, following till being discharged. The children’s facilities were good (Toys and colouring etc.). the length of time we had to wait for a blood test was well over an hour and worse is the pharmacy onsite.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are pleased to hear that the staff on the Burn Unit were helpful and attentive, this must have been very welcome at what must have been a very distressing time for you all. We will ensure that your lovely comments are brought to the attention of the team, and we are sure that they will be pleased that their efforts have not gone unnoticed! Nevertheless, it is disappointing that your experience was affected by long waits for blood tests and in Pharmacy. Both departments serve the whole hospital, and inevitably will be busy, however, both teams are constantly seeking ways to improve flow through their departments. Once again, thank you taking the time to provide your feedback. We wish you and your granddaughter all the best for her future treatment. Kind regards, Patient Experience Team.

Long waiting time for disabled children

January 15, 2020
Children’s hospital best staff and clean & tidy. Waiting time too long, especially for disabled children. Very hard for families to manage the long waiting time. They should consider for disabled children waiting time.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry to hear that you found the waiting time too long, especially for disabled children. The comfort of our patients and families is paramount to us, and we are constantly seeking ways to improve the experience of those visiting our hospital. We have recently made improvements to the waiting area in the Main Outpatients Department, including providing screens and colouring tables for children to play with. We do appreciate that managing a long waiting time with a disabled child can be challenging, and we do encourage parents to speak to the nurse in charge of the clinic to find alternative arrangements. Should you have any concerns in future, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on bwc.pals@nhs.net or via telephone on 0121 333 8403. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

Hospital toilets are not very hygienic

January 15, 2020
I was at the Children’s hospital today showing my friend moral support. I have to say the toilets are not very hygienic. The standards could be a bit better. We have to keep in mind infection control and other issues .

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that the toilets were not up to the high standards we would normally expect during your visit - you are absolutely right, it is imperative that hygiene and infection control is maintained throughout the Trust. The toilets are checked on a regular basis, however, should you encounter any further problems, please do not hesitate to inform our colleagues on the Welcome Desk, who will be happy to contact the Facilities team to arrange housekeeping accordingly. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are pleased to learn that you were seen quite quickly that day, but it is disappointing to learn that the toilets were not up to our usual high standards. The toilets are checked on a regular basis, and we are sorry that you did not find them hygienic on this occasion. We hope that your future visits to Birmingham Children's Hospital are more positive, but please do report any problems with the toilets to our colleagues on the Welcome Desk, at the front of the hospital, and they will contact the Facilities team to ensure they are cleaned as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for taking the time to get in touch with your feedback. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry that there appeared to be confusion over the time of your appointment; we do appreciate that taking children out of school is not ideal, however, we hope the appointment went ahead as planned and you went on to have a more positive experience. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.
