GP referral process

On 2 occasions this year I have had GP referrals to BWH. The first for an urgent ultrasound. When I rang within the week (as advised by GP) I was told categorically there was no live referral. Went back to GP surgery where reception staff confirmed a referral 'email' had been sent ( I thought the process might have been more tailored with a portal of some kind but not so). After 3 days of phoning and in 1 instance holding for just over 2 hours I was cut off. I then went up in person to resolve the issue and found I was on the system and an appt had been scheduled for a weeks time. Jump forward to 10th May, a second referral, again advised not on a live referral, go back to GP, GP advises yet again that a referral has been sent... phone BWH again this time advised referral is live and had been released to consultant lists on 7th June. I anticipate an appointment letter for an initial clinic appt sometime in the next few weeks??? No timeline could be given. Have already escalated to PALS the dire issues with communication which is why my GP surgery asks patients to phone and follow up on all referrals as staff do not have capacity to oversee this task.
