They could be more helpful.

February 19, 2024
Not very good with medication, I'm sick of things. If you're a drug addict they don't want to help you. They don't want to give you anything to manage the pain. Don't think I'm getting better. They could be more helpful.

The care is second to none.

My parents have been here and the care is good. My mom was admitted not long ago. They took care of her very very well. My dad has been in before too and the care has been second to none.

Shocking

Accident and emergency services
February 16, 2024
My father died at Heartlands Hospital after staff failed to treat sepsis. I feel this was a conscious decision as the doctor felt my father had “little quality of life”. This passing comment was made several times. No discussions were held about his diagnosis or treatment options. They just told me they were making him as comfortable as possible. If I had known he had sepsis I would have queried why antibiotics were not been given. He had a number of health issues however his time was not up. The day before we sat singing to Bob Marley songs - he was laughing a joking. I don’t think it’s ethically right that a doctor decides who is worthy or not of treatment - they don’t know patients like their families do. Surely a discussion was required. My dad was loved and supported and lived a comfortable life. My view is he would still be alive if they had treated him as a medical emergency not left him laying in a bed alone. My dad died an hour after my arrival but had been on the ward 5-6 hours. Patients were crammed in beds in corridors so maybe they wanted to discard the weak and make space. Shame on the NHS - preserve life…. *If they feel you are worthy*

It was a long wait when I broke my finger and they said it was a 6 hour wait. I ended up waiting 9 hours in agony. It is still not right now.

Maternity care was awful.

February 12, 2024
Supporting granddaughter during pregnancy. Baby showing breech and big. First appointment 8 Jan supposed to have had full scan but scan at most 30 seconds to confirm baby position Dr gave options for decision said she would be back in 15 mins then vanished for over an hour and a half, turned out she had gone for lunch. ECV suggested and appointment given for Weds 10 Jan. ECV carried out but due to blood group granddaughter required an injection which was not available. Had to return Thurs 11th Jan for full scan and injection. Scan done then told to go for coffee as incorrect amount of injection had been ordered and they needed to get more. 2.5 hours later we were still waiting. Then received phone call suggesting we go home and return Friday 12 Jan. We refused and amazingly 10 minutes later injection available but only space not in use was a storage cupboard and that's where injection was given!!
There is more including being told granddaughter's waters to be broken and she was first on list and 30 hours later she was still waiting with no updates!

They are the best

I had a pain in my hand and was seen quickly by a doctor. They did an x-ray. I also had my child there and they were the best. This hospital is the best for me. The midwife was like a mom to me. She was the best.

A good hospital. When I went to A&E they were much better and more helpful than with my children than the doctors were. I had to take him when he was having a sick heart. They did tests and gave him medicine and sorted him out within 2 weeks. They were very good.
