Better with children than GP

April 12, 2023
Sometimes they're more helpful than the GP because they ask all the questions to see what's wrong, but they're better with children when you can't get through to the GP.

They are helpful

They are helpful. They understand your symptoms and tell you to go to the A&E but you know the wait will be 4 or 5 hours.

They were helpful

I called them for my wife who was struggling to get an appointment with the doctors for her diabetes. They were helpful I think but I do feel like I should have just been able to go to my doctors for this instead of bothering them.

Quite helpful. They usually just send to children’s. Quite quick to get through and they do a call back with in an hour. Usually quick because of the kids.

I rang for my husband, he was ill and I couldn't get through to the GP. They sent him to Good Hope hospital. They were good at navigating to hospital and getting the help my husband needed.

Had to wait 3 hours

March 24, 2023
Had to wait 3 hours , got through eventually. They passed on to another doctor, diagnosed son over the phone on Monday. Then was seen by doctor who said he has tonsillitis and gave him medicines on Wednesday.

NHS 111 is much more than a helpline – if you're worried about an urgent medical concern, you can call 111 to speak to a fully trained adviser. Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to a nurse, emergency dentist or even a GP, and can arrange face-to-face appointments if they think you need one. NHS 111 advisers can also assess if you need an ambulance and send one immediately if necessary.
