Why is the consultation taking place?
Domestic abuse in Birmingham, as everywhere, can happen to anyone and can affect every area of our lives.  The impact of domestic abuse can be serious and long lasting and affects people’s sense of safety, health, wellbeing and independence.
Domestic abuse is increasing and more people, both adults and children, are known to be at risk than ever before.  At the same time, our public services are shrinking and we need to find new ways of keeping our population safe and healthy and enabling our communities to thrive.
Our long term goal is for Birmingham to be a City free from domestic abuse and we must therefore take all practical steps to eliminate domestic abuse, whilst reducing harm and demand for services along the way.
