Can you get an NHS dentist?

We’re starting 2022 with an investigation into NHS dental care. Many people have contacted us recently to report problems finding surgeries accepting new NHS patients, or being able to get timely appointments, among other concerns.

I’m struggling to find an NHS dentist which is taking on new patients. I can’t afford the cost as a private patient.

My registered dentist won’t book me in as I haven’t been for 2 years.

As Healthwatch Birmingham focuses on the priorities the public tell us about we, alongside Healthwatch Solihull, will be producing a report into people’s experiences of accessing NHS dentistry in the local area. This report will be presented to the NHS England and NHS Improvement West Midlands Dental Team, who will be held accountable for making improvements people want.
