They give me a translator

December 4, 2023
It is good. I understand everything. When I need to see a doctor they give me a translator. It is a long wait to see the doctor. Staff are good and they help me.

Wife was seen on time with no fuss at all.

I went there with my wife. She was seen on time and after a month a follow up appointment came through the post. Very good. No hassle or fuss at all.

Did not feel listened to or understood.

I had my daughter there and I wasn't offered an epidural until later on. I feel there is a narrative that black women are strong and I did not feel listened to or that they understand.

Culture of covering up poor care/service

Gynaecology

Have not had an admission date for surgery since pre-op. Seems impossible to get through to admissions in 6 months of trying. PALS is useless, insults patients and covers up for admissions, as does the medical secretary. Formal complaint has been lodged. I'm left feeling very concerned/scared about actually having surgery in BWH and feel bullied by the people I've referred to.

I am very sorry to hear that you have had a poor experience. Understand that you have raised a formal complaint, but I would be keen to understand more about your experience with the PALS team so I can make any necessary improvements, as the manager of that service. I would welcome a call from you to discuss further.

Clinics run on time and the staff are helpful.

I go there regularly for check ups and screening for cervical cancer. The staff are very helpful and clinics run on time with appointments given in advance. Good communication through letters and emails.

The don't read patient notes or reports.

November 23, 2023
They are good. Really nice midwives. They make me feel really reassured and calm. the doctor made me feel like that too. I felt anxious coming in. I am with one doctor but I don't always see the same doctor. They ask me the same questions and don't read reports and notes so I have to explain each time. there is no continuity of care.

A friendly environment.

It's been great here. Appointments don't take too long. They are timely. I have been here for only 12 weeks and it is a friendly environment. It doesn't seem like anything is too much to ask for.

No appointment until 20 weeks pregnant.

November 23, 2023
It's not too bad. Could be better. I have had my second appointment here at 25 weeks. My daughter was born 10 weeks early and they still haven't seen me until now. My first scan was at 20 weeks. I had no previous appointments and no communication. I would have thought they would keep a closer eye on me.

Good communication with staff.

It's been okay. I have high risk pregnancies so I am monitored quite closely which is nice. I get letters and everything logged onto the app which is good. Good communication with staff.
