Very pleased with them for help. Operation arranged from abroad and told I would need to be here 6 weeks before. Operation was done on date arranged in advance. Good service all has been good.

Really disappointing

December 2, 2022
I was told to come in for 8am. I was late due to school and road work traffic and arrived at 8:30am. I was looked after by a ward nurse. My nurse was absolutely amazing; what a wonderful lady with a huge heart. She represents what angel nurses are! She admitted me into hospital and said I was due to go down theatre around 11am but, it may change but that was on her current list.
Anaesthetist came and he was absolutely great, really lovely person and made me laugh & then the Consultant came to see me at 12pm and told me I wasn’t due till 4-4:30pm and even he said, I don’t understand why they get people in so early. To be here all day and following the nil by mouth rules was incredibly difficult for me. I felt poorly all day with nausea due to stomach problems I have. And I could had been at home resting and had some breakfast at 5-6am (6 hrs no food to procedure) and water 2 hours prior to my procedure if I knew I wasn’t due to be down in theatre, until late afternoon. Theatre staff were absolutely lovely as with my anaesthetist, I mentioned above. Made me feel very comfortable and can’t thank them enough.
I wish I could say the same for the Recovery Dept Nurses and sadly I am not able to. My recovery nurse made me cry and argued with me, due to her rudeness and terrible bedside manner. I am going to make a formal complaint on this and email the relevant department as the way I was treated in recovery was just unacceptable. No patients should come back to their room and cry to their nurse about what had happened. Another recovery nurse was nice and diffused the situation and talked to me like a human being and whilst I was telling her what happened, the nurse in question was slamming the plastic drawers of where you keep bandages etc and muttering to herself saying “oh my god, this patient” - “why did I have to get this patient” - more will be stated in the complaint.

My ward nurse was so lovely and held my hand and was very comforting as I was emotional and telling her what had happened. She went to recovery to see if she could get a senior leader of that department to come and see me as I told her, I wanted a formal complaint to be made. Unfortunately they had all left for the day but informed me of your complaints procedures and how I can get my experience heard.
I do find that the only trouble I’ve experienced in this hospital (I’ve been coming in & out for 14 years) has always been down to the recovery dept staff. Do not find a lot of them professional and I’ve mentioned before that they forget patients are in the room because they “moan” about other colleagues and their work they have to do. Unfortunately they let this hospital down again and it has definitely made me more reluctant to select this hospital as choice of treatment, going forward. No patients deserve what I had in Recovery and it’s even worse when you are paying for it.
Finally, catering came in my room asking if I was ready for my food; nurse said yes she is and she said she’ll be right back with it. 1 hour later no food arrived and I really started to feel sick. I was allowed to go home so I opted to leave. Again, second time I’ve experienced catering not delivering my food here at this hospital. I’m not sure if they close early but, I hadn’t eaten for 24 hours and was at the hospital for 12 whole hours. I wouldn’t have had a hot drink if it wasn’t for my ward nurse kindly arranging a cup of tea to be brought into me as soon as I arrived back in my room - that wasn’t down to catering, that was my nurse, bless her heart. The lady who did come in my room seemed a bit frustrated in the room and as she left, the door slammed. Both the nurse and I thought it may had been an accident but we both were aware she had slammed the door.
She didn’t return.

I got home and felt so sick, I was gagging but nothing was coming up. I had a piece of toast but that was all I could handle. I felt sick all through the night.
