Right to Respond

As part of our commitment to providing an honest and transparent view of health and social care services, Healthwatch Birmingham encourages providers to respond to comments the public have left.

Alongside ensuring providers can have a fair say in discussions about their services, replying to reviews demonstrates evidence of responding to patient feedback for the CQC, who regularly monitor our Feedback Centre. It is also an effective way to recruit service users for any wider engagement work at your organisation.

Guidelines for provider responses:

  • Keep language appropriate and civil
  • Remain professional and treat people’s comments fairly
  • Engage with the content of the review by addressing specific points and avoid cut and pasting a standard response
  • Don’t disclose the service user’s personal details or any potentially identifying information
  • Where appropriate leave organisational contact details e.g PALS or patient engagement teams for people to get further information

Remember: your response will be seen by everyone who uses the Feedback Centre, not just the original reviewer. All responses are moderated in accordance with our moderation policy.

Prime Dental Surgery

Declined for registration

I have been with this surgery before this current dentist, and since he has been here I’ve been very happy always professional and willing to help, never long wait times unfortunately because my little one missed two appointments they took her off the register which I understood are the rules. I however stayed on recently I went in to book an appointment for a routine dental check up which the hospital advised as I’m a cancer patient undergoing treatment, but was told I am no longer registered. I asked the receptionist if she could re register me and explain to the dentist my situation, after 3 days I still had no reply and decided to go in and see. I was told no he will not take me on even though I desperately needed this before any further treatment for cancer. I explained I will be paying but still was turned down. I feel so let down after being so loyal for at least 20 yrs ! What a terrible service he didn’t even have the courtesy to phone himself and explain why he wouldn’t be registering me it’s not as though I was a terrible patient or caused any kind of trouble. How unkind not to help someone when they are in need. Would not recommend.
