Getting an appointment and follow up care

January 12, 2018
I and my family have had good experiences with the doctor's surgery. The main problem we have had is to do with getting doctor's appointments.

To get an appointment on the day you need to call after 8.30am, sometimes you can spend up to 20/25 minutes constantly calling to get through to get an appointment that day.
To try to find out when a certain doctor is in to follow up from a previous appointment can be difficult the reception staff are sometimes reticent to let you know.

I know in theory it shouldn't matter which doctor you see, but when you are following up it is easier and more comfortable to see the doctor who referred you, or a doctor you are more comfortable with.

Demand to see GPs is usually very high which is why it can be difficult to get through on the telephone early morning. Many patients find booking appointments on-line more convenient. You can contact our reception to get your password to access our on-line services.

Ok when you can get appointments

When you get to see them they are ok. Two years ago, kept changing tablets and led to heart attack - hospital said should have been referred earlier. Not easy to get appointment - queue earlier than 8am. I don't go online which is the only other way to get an appointment.

Generally ok service

I have an ongoing condition. One doctor does not give a full consultation and is short with patients - the consultations are too quick. I will not go and see that GP again.

Waiting time as it is up to 30 minute and have had to wait 25, so always not seen when booked in as have kids have to get back home in time. Also, when they have locum docs have to explain slowly things to them.

Thanks for you comments. Sometimes our appointments run late as some patients need more consultation time than the standard 10 minutes.

It's hard to get a same day appointment when you need it, but the general appointments are good.
