Family Support
KIDS is a national charity that provides a wide range of services to disabled children, young people and their families in England. Services include: drop-in crèches and nurseries for the under 5s to youth clubs, short breaks and residential stays for young adults. Compass Support provide service that enable people to make a positive change in their lives. Their offer includes; employment, adult support, family support, health & wellbeing, children & young people and community support.
Family Health
Advice, tips and tools to help you make the best choices about your health and wellbeing. Information includes mental health, sleep, exercise and losing weight.
Change for Life offers tips and advice on healthy eating and exercise for parents and their children.
Health Exchange help you make choices about your lifestyle so you can improve your health and the way you feel about yourself. They work with people and their communities to achieve better health and wellbeing.
Carer Support
Forward Carers – Birmingham Carers Hub
Forward Carers is a West Midlands based carer support service for people caring for an elderly, frail, sick or disabled family member. Forward Carers can help you find out how to look after yourself and manage your caring role, and find information about all of the support and services available in your area.
Carers Direct helpline advisers can give you information on topics such as: carer’s assessments, benefits for carers, direct payments, personal budgets, taking time off work and starting or going back to work. Call the helpline at: 0300 123 1053.
The ‘Planning for the Future’ booklet is provides information about some of the things that carers and families may need to think about when looking to the future. It also contains information on emergency planning should it be needed.
Mental Health
Bethel-Rapha Listening Service
Rapha has been set up by Bethel Health and Healing Network so that people suffering low level mental health problems can have someone local to talk to in confidence about whatever is on their minds and have someone sincerely listen.
Birmingham Healthy Minds is an NHS primary care psychological therapies service that works closely with Birmingham GPs. They offer advice, information and brief psychological talking therapies for people aged 16 and over, who are often feeling anxious, low in mood or depressed.
Birmingham Mind is the largest independent mental health charity providing services in and beyond the City of Birmingham’s boundaries. Services include Accommodation with Support, PURE Employment Service, Residential Care, Support In Your Own Home.
Quit Smoking
Smokefree offers support for people who want to quit smoking and links to local Stop Smoking Services.
Birmingham has 300 GPs and local pharmacies that provide stop smoking support. You can get free advice, one to one support and access to a range of nicotine replacement therapies on prescription.
Older People
Age UK Birmingham – Information and Advice
Age UK Birmingham offers a free and confidential information and advice service for people aged 50 and over, their families and carers. They offer independent information on a wide range of subjects including: welfare benefits, housing options, care at home, residential care and family and personal matters.
Age Concern Birmingham offers services to promote wellbeing and independence for older and their carers. These include day centres, community cafes and home care and domestic services.
Ageing Better in Birmingham is a programme that aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation among people over 50 across the city.
