Healthwatch Birmingham is the independent consumer champion created to gather and represent the public and patient’s experiences of using local health and social care services. This includes services like GPs, pharmacists, hospitals, dentists, care homes and community based care.
By gathering, analysing and acting upon the feedback provided by patients and the public who are using health and social care services in the city, to help them improve, now and in the future. We have the power to check that service providers are doing what they say they are, challenge under-performance or concerns raised and champion best practice.

Research Assistant

  • £27,292 – £29,361 per annum
  • 35 hours per week
    Contract until 31st March 2017 (Extension possible subject to funding)
    Based at Cobalt Square, 83, Hagley Road, Birmingham, B16 8QG

The role of research assistant is a new role at Healthwatch Birmingham and it’s critical to our ability to achieve transformational change. This role is an exciting opportunity to conduct ‘real-world’ research, using publically reported experience of health and social care services to identify avoidable inequity. You will be designing and conducting studies to investigate the scale, scope and impact of these cases of potential inequity. In doing so we will achieve more publically-initiated change which leads to a positive and growing impact for the people who live and work in Birmingham. The successful candidate will have a proven recent experience of designing and conducting a number of quantitative and qualitative research projects ideally in health and social care with a relevant degree.

Policy Officer

  • £25,440 – £27,123 per annum
  • 35 hours per week
    Contract until 31st March 2017 (Extension possible subject to funding)

This is a new role at Healthwatch Birmingham and it’s critical to our ability to achieving transformational change. The role is an exciting opportunity to support Healthwatch Birmingham in our purpose of reducing avoidable health inequity in the health and social care services in Birmingham. The role will ensure we are fully informed by relevant local and national policy by identifying and obtaining relevant policies, reports and papers that underpin the service provision of health and social care in Birmingham and nationally, supporting colleagues comparing policy to practice. Led by the Head of Evidence this role will scrutinise and draft responses to policy and/or consultations ensuring public involvement through the process. The successful candidate will have proven experience and understanding of National and Local policy around health and social care.

Audit Officer

  • £25,440 – 27,123 per annum
  • 35 hours per week
    Contract until 31st March 2017 (Extension possible subject to funding)

The audit officer is a leader in developing quality Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in health and social care services in Birmingham. The role is to ensure that all decisions, service changes and new service design in health and social care has the voice and experience of patients, public, service users and carers at the heart. The successful candidate will conduct high quality systematic audits of the quality of PPI across the city in line with Healthwatch Birmingham’s PPI Quality Standard making and publicising recommendations. Central to the role is verifying conformance to PPI standards through review of objective evidence, providing systematic and independent scrutiny of PPI systems. Successful applicants will have a proven experience of designing, developing and conducting all stages of the audit cycle, with a relevant degree.

Personal Assistant to the CEO and Secretary to the Board

  • £24,646 – £26,276 per annum pro rata
  • 25 hours per week
    Contract until 31st March 2017 (Extension possible subject to funding)

The role of personal assistant to the CEO and Secretary to the Board is integral to the efficient and smooth running and governance of Healthwatch Birmingham. The role will work closely with the chief Executive Officer and Chair of the Board helping them perform their roles effectively, and is the first point of contact to key stakeholders. The post holder will ensure the CEO’s time is prioritised, negotiating meetings and appointments accordingly. Supporting the Board the role will provide secretarial support to the quarterly board meetings, ensuring the highest quality minutes are available to the public and that all Board papers are produced, collated and disseminated on time. The successful candidate will have proven experience of providing high quality PA support and providing secretarial support to a Board.
