Long wait for surgery caused permanent disability

February 10, 2023
I waited for nearly a year since I reported my sensory and loss of function in my hands to my GP, who immediately referred me to ROH. However, despite several internal and external escalations including PALS, GP I was seen way past the National NHS standards past 18 weeks (in fact I waited exactly around 7 months for surgery) by the time which my disability has now become permanent and life long . I’ve got to live with it and totally affects my quality of life . However, the care I received from the Orthopaedic team was good once seen but could be better, hence the two stars

As a deaf person this is impossible for me

To book an interpreter you need to call to booking line. As a deaf person this is impossible for me to do.

Waited 5 hours for an interpreter

February 6, 2023
Attended ROH as a day case patient, had already requested a BSL interpreter prior to appointment. Arrived to be told no interpreter had been booked., waited 5 hours for interpreter to arrive who stayed 10 mins and left. I was left to communicate via my advocate for rest of stay. Staff did not remove mask to talk to me. I felt embarrassed for myself. I also made a complain to PALs who dismissed my complaint and failed to offer any support or advice. All the appointments I have is a guessing game as to whether I will get an interpreter and even them they don’t seem to stay past an hour. This leaves me either cancelling or on my own.

Waiting for appointment 8 months

Outpatients
February 2, 2023
Had a appointment in May to see surgeon told to have another mri and ct scan . He said he wanted to see me within 4 months 8 months on still awaiting an appointment . I phoned appointments in January 23 to be told I wasn't on the appointments list
and there are no appointments available. Receptionist was very apologetic and put me on the waiting list I've been in terrible pain waiting to see consultant looks like I will be waiting another 6 months to see someone if im lucky appointments system is shocking.

Wife was bought in from Warwick hospital

January 26, 2023
Hell of a place to get to. Wife was bought in from Warwick hospital. Problem with replacement hip that Warwick didn’t have the specialty to deal with. They had a scanning equipment, just not the knowledge to interpret the scans. Fed up of staying for 7 days.

Really good experience

January 26, 2023
Really good experience, apart from last appointment where I turned up and found out my appointment had been cancelled. No phone calls and the letter was in the post and send during strikes. But I have been here as an inpatient twice, had a tumor removed in 2009 and 2018. Everything was fine, food was fine and endless cups of tea. Was in 9 days last time.

Wonderful referral time

January 26, 2023
Fantastic from GP and its taken 7 days. Wonderful referral time. Easy to get to. Parking great. Both receptionist were super with nice accent. Communication screen about how long the waits are, so you are not wondering where information boards are and who is who staff wise. Volunteers very pleasant.
