Creating a Mentally Healthy City 2025

Birmingham City Council consulted on its Creating a Mentally Healthy City 2025 strategy, which outlines a vision and plan to improve mental health and wellbeing across the city. The strategy includes priorities across four key areas — People, Families, Communities and Places — as well as a strand focused on suicide prevention. Healthwatch Birmingham responded to the consultation to ensure that the views of local people are reflected in the final plan.

Residential Care Centres Consultation – Phase 2

Birmingham City Council carried out a second phase of consultation on the future of its Residential Care Centres, following public feedback on the initial consultation. This phase included additional information, a Health Impact Assessment, and streamlined questions. Healthwatch Birmingham submitted a response to highlight considerations important to patients, residents, and carers.

Tuberculosis National Action Plan 2026–2031
Consultation by: UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and NHS England
UKHSA and NHS England sought views to shape the next national action plan for Tuberculosis (TB) in England, focusing on prevention, detection, control, and workforce. Healthwatch Birmingham responded to emphasise the importance of patient involvement, accessible communication, and continued service quality.

NHS Standard Contract 2025/26 – Further Consultation

NHS England consulted on further proposed changes to the NHS Standard Contract for 2025/26, including updates on Indicative Activity Plans (IAPs), Activity Management Plans (AMPs), and the introduction of a new provider escalation process. Healthwatch Birmingham responded to highlight the importance of public understanding and patient experience in the development and implementation of these proposals.

Shaping the National Cancer Plan

The UK Government consulted on the development of a new National Cancer Plan. The plan aims to improve prevention, early diagnosis, treatment, patient experience, and outcomes, with a focus on reducing health inequalities. Healthwatch Birmingham responded to ensure the voices of people in Birmingham are reflected in national cancer policy.

UK Parliament’s call for evidence regarding Community Mental Health Services
We shared feedback from the Healthwatch Birmingham report Experiences of NHS Community mental health services in South and East Birmingham – Healthwatch Birmingham as well as feedback we have heard from the people of Birmingham and Solihull between April 2023 and December 2024.
