Unable to facilitate an appointment for me

I had to use NHS 111 when I was unable to access an appointment at my GP surgery. They were friendly over the telephone but ultimately could not facilitate an appointment for me and only sent me a link to book an appointment, which I explained did not work.

A good service

I have had to use NHS 111 on a number of occasions when I have been unable to get a GP appointment. I have found the service useful and I have managed to access GP care with their help.

They had to get me into my GP

I had severe asthma and needed to see a doctor so I had to call them to get me one because I couldn't get one directly though my GP.

The said the doctor would call back after I explained I was having a miscarriage. They said they would call back.

A disappointing service

I was left very disappointed by the service provided by NHS 111. I called them for medical advice and they told me they were sending an ambulance. 30 minutes later they called me back and told me an ambulance would not be coming and that we had to make our own way to the hospital. My husband had had a stroke, getting him in and out of the car and driving to the hospital was very difficult and very concerning.

Given great advice

They sent me to A&E as they thought I had a blood clot. I got through very quickly and they gave great advice. They acted appropriately.

Called 111 yesterday night and I explained my issue. They got me an appointment and sent a text to confirm the appointment.

Quick to sort everything

I called and they offered me a dental hospital appointment for 8:30am. I even got a text to confirm it. They were quick at sorting everything out.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is much more than a helpline – if you're worried about an urgent medical concern, you can call 111 to speak to a fully trained adviser. Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to a nurse, emergency dentist or even a GP, and can arrange face-to-face appointments if they think you need one. NHS 111 advisers can also assess if you need an ambulance and send one immediately if necessary.
