4 hour wait to be told to go to GP

I called 111 and they said they couldn't help me. They said you had to wait 4 hours and then when they call you they say go to the GP. They are not helpful at all.

I called them 3 times. I didn't get anything out of it. It is difficult to use. My friend had a cold. The first time I was told to call back. The second time and third time they asked if she was a medical practitioner but she is a consultant. They didn't know what they wanted from her.

Call back and sent to the GP

They ask you what is wrong and then they say they will call you back in 2 hours. Then they just send you to your GP. That is risky to life.

Wouldn't give me an emergency prescription.

I called for an emergency prescription but they wouldn't give me anything as it had not been prescribed through my current GP and they said I would need to go through the GP.

Told to go to A&E

Called them when I was having chest pains and was told to go straight to A&E after not being able to contact the GP.

My wife was not feeling well so I called 111 and they arranged an appointment at South Birmingham urgent care centre within an hour. A very helpful service.

Not very helpful. If you have got problems you can't get through them and use their service.

I have used them for my parents and they are very good. Doctors will often tell us to use them as they have no appointments or won't see you. On this occasion they told us to take my mom to the hospital and they were good at giving information. A brilliant service.

A good service, very good. I don't mind waiting which you have to sometimes but they will call you back and give you good information or advice. They give you peace of mind.

NHS 111

NHS 111 is much more than a helpline – if you're worried about an urgent medical concern, you can call 111 to speak to a fully trained adviser.

Depending on the situation, the NHS 111 team can connect you to a nurse, emergency dentist or even a GP, and can arrange face-to-face appointments if they think you need one.

NHS 111 advisers can also assess if you need an ambulance and send one immediately if necessary.
