Hospital toilets are not very hygienic

January 15, 2020
I was at the Children’s hospital today showing my friend moral support. I have to say the toilets are not very hygienic. The standards could be a bit better. We have to keep in mind infection control and other issues .

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are sorry that the toilets were not up to the high standards we would normally expect during your visit - you are absolutely right, it is imperative that hygiene and infection control is maintained throughout the Trust. The toilets are checked on a regular basis, however, should you encounter any further problems, please do not hesitate to inform our colleagues on the Welcome Desk, who will be happy to contact the Facilities team to arrange housekeeping accordingly. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

It's ok, just that hospital is quite small were patients stay.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We are pleased to learn that you were seen quite quickly that day, but it is disappointing to learn that the toilets were not up to our usual high standards. The toilets are checked on a regular basis, and we are sorry that you did not find them hygienic on this occasion. We hope that your future visits to Birmingham Children's Hospital are more positive, but please do report any problems with the toilets to our colleagues on the Welcome Desk, at the front of the hospital, and they will contact the Facilities team to ensure they are cleaned as soon as possible. Once again, thank you for taking the time to get in touch with your feedback. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

My appointment is for 12 pm but now it’s 12:45 pm, which means my son is missing more school time than he should.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry that there appeared to be confusion over the time of your appointment; we do appreciate that taking children out of school is not ideal, however, we hope the appointment went ahead as planned and you went on to have a more positive experience. Best wishes, Patient Experience Team.

Told can’t be seen if more than 15 minutes late, I did not arrive later than 15 minutes and they still said I could not be seen.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We are sorry that you could not be seen when you arrived for your appointment. The decision not to see you would have been at the discretion of the doctor seeing you, and is dependent on how busy the clinic is, and the clinical need of the patients, amongst other factors. Nevertheless, this must have been very upsetting for you, particularly as you would have been concerned for your child, and we hope that you did not have long to wait before your next appointment. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) who will be happy to help resolve your concerns. You can contact our PALS team on 0121 333 8403 or by bwc.pals@nhs.net. Best Wishes, Patient Experience Team.
