Appalling for an eye hospital

July 10, 2017
No awareness or understanding of eye/vision impairment. Staff are often short with me and rude - no compassion. Told me to "go sit on red chair" when I can't tell what colour the chairs are. It means I can't go on my own to the hospital, always need someone with me. This is because they have no understanding of eye conditions, and I've heard others say the same.

I have been under BMEC for several years including 10 operations. All the staff are so friendly and helpful. I always feel as if I have there whole attention. They always do the safety checks thoroughly which gives me more confidence. The only downside is the long waits in clinic but I know this is because they will always spend as long as is needed seeing any patient.

Biham eye centre: Dudley Road.

Since it opened I have been taking friends and relations to this centre and all have commented how well they have been treated and cared for, some having procedures needing overnight stays. When you are the driver/transport you get to hear the unedited comments of the people and they are all positive, both from their first occasion and continuing care.
Then it became my turn. Yes, theyre good, and the outcome good. My thanks, and the thanks of those i take there. I often wonder whether they get any useful medical feedback from patients, because like doctors you get sent on your way with a prescription and they never get to hear the good news, or how it turned out.

Having attended hospital annually for approx 5 years I have been discharged because I didn't book my appointment within 14 days. Reason is I was on holiday.

Unhappy with long waiting times

I was sent to the hospital by my GP as was suffering with severe pressure in my eye along with headache. I arrived at the hospital and was not seen by a doctor until 7.30 pm and a blood test was done but no pain relief given. At 9.00 pm was taken up to a waiting room on a ward as department closed to public. Was told at 10.30 pm that my bloods were back and I was next patient to be seen. This did not happen as a number of patients were called before me and I had been there for 5 hours longer than them. Finally seen doctor at 12.10 pm and discharged. I was given my first drink at 9.30 pm and during the 10 and a half hours waiting around was not offered anything to eat. If the hospital had kept me informed on what was going on the experience could have been a little better. Waiting times are not acceptable and it was very frustrating for everyone.

i went to the day centre at 12 midday, i went into theatre around 3.50pm, i was ready to go home at 5pm. My surgeon and the results of the operation are amazing, i cannot thank this very competent surgeon enough, she is a very very nice, caring lady, i dont know how i can thank her and her team who were in theatre at the time enough, i would also like to say a big thank you to the staff who looked after me before and after the operation, thank you all very much. x
