Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. The manager of outpatients has been made aware of your comments and their feedback is as follows; 'All our clinicians work hard to adhere to appointment times. On occasions clinic appointments can be delayed, this can be for a variety of reasons. We aim to ensure we fully meet the unique needs of all our patients and families, and as a result some appointments may take longer than the allocated time.'

Have been waiting 5 minutes which is unusual as appointments normally on time. Good waiting areas - great hospital. They have someone who makes sure the kids are entertained. Clean and seating comfortable.
Impressed with hospital. Staff amazing - can't fault anything.
Nurses need to shout a bit louder when it is your turn as struggle to hear.

Can't hear your name being called

They should have proper sound system using speakers for patient calling. This will make things easy for everyone. Nurses don't need to shout out and names and patients can sit in a relaxing mood and can hear their name easily when called. Everything else is in good shape.

Long waiting time for X rays

Orthopaedics
November 19, 2018
My child who is three years old has a severe global developmental delay and a rare neurological condition. She is under different consultant care in different hospitals. When she was 10 months old I noticed that there was something wrong with her hips. She has since been seen by physio, and also Heartlands Hospital Child Development Centre for the issue, and finally she was referred to Children’s Hospital Orthopaedic department, where she has only been seen once so far.
I was so concerned about her hips that I took her to a private orthopaedic consultant in Germany. They did examinations and x-rays and suggested that she needs to have an operation in her hips and legs. I then took these results to Children’s Hospital, where the consultant did not agree with the results. The consultant told us that they have to do another x-ray to determine the need for an operation, but as children can’t have it more than once within 6 months, we have had to wait a long time for the examination. However it has now been over 9 months and we still haven’t had the appointment. It has been scheduled for December, which will be ten months later. The delay in getting her legs and hips to looked at is heart-breaking. As a mum I have to witness my little daughter’s condition getting worse and worse and it is really hard. I fear that because of the delay she will have lasting effect. Her spine is going to be bent because of this. She should be already receiving treatment to support her bones and we should by now know what best care for her.

The care we received was amazing

Oncology
October 9, 2018
I had a baby in 2009, sadly he was diagnosed with brain tumour when he was just 9 weeks old. He was looked after by staff at Children’s hospital oncology unit. The care we received was amazing, also from the Macmillan and CLC sargeant nurses. When we were struggling to finance the taxi journeys to hospital they helped us get ambulance transport instead. Our son sadly passed away aged 7 months. Children’s hospital made this traumatic experience as comfortable as possible. They let us have our own room and they let me take him home and feed him myself for the last time. I am really grateful for them.

Good but limited knowledge of Autism

Accident and emergency services
October 8, 2018
The Doctors and Nurses in A & E are very good, but they have no knowledge of knowledge of Autism. They do not understand the condition and the challenges. For example, one of the nurses wanted to check my son ears and I asked her to wait one minute to allow him to get used to the environment, but she just went ahead to check him which made my son anxious. At other times, they ask him to open his mouth and yet I have told them that he does not understand because he does not understand words. The Doctor has to physically open his mouth because he will not respond to instructions. They need to improve their knowledge and trust that what carers are telling them is the truth.
