Staff try their best in poor conditions

Outpatients
July 17, 2018
Been a patient here for a long time under immunology. Unfortunately they have run out of treatment options for my condition, but the staff have tried to get me the very latest treatments. My consultant is excellent, but sometimes has only a very short time to see me in. The facilities are very dated, and I've had to visit my consultant in some terrible offices. For a while the clinic was based in the rooms about the maternity hospital. I cannot have a baby because of risk of birth defects with my medications, and it was incredibly upsetting to have to walk through the maternity reception each time to get to the clinic. The waiting area seemed to be the place where all broken and odd chairs in the hospital came to retire.
They've now moved to other space in the hospital, but it's all very run down.

not so good followup service for patients

My relative was a long term chronic patient, over the years I noticed that they stopped the yearly check ups to determine if the patient was getting worse.
Patient changed hospital outpatients to the QE which I feel had a better service from staff.

My relative was sent an appointment, it was an evening one, so we tried to change it but they took her off the list. She is still waiting for an appointment - over a year.

Visit to A&E for child’s broken finger

Accident and emergency services
November 9, 2017
I attended A&E here after being told i would wait at least 5 hours to be seen at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The hospital triaged very quickly and had an excellent pathway for X-ray before I had to see the doctor; saving both him and me time. Within an hour I had been triaged, had X-rays, saw a junior doctor and his consultant, had her finger strapped and been given an appointment that same week for fracture clinic. Everyone we saw including receptionists were exceptionally polite and helpful. What a difference from the children’s. I was so impressed and grateful. Will use this service from now on.

Very good treatment initially

Good staff, they were all very good.
After my consultant retired, I never got to see the same doctor again. Every time I went it was a different person, so I stopped going.

Kindness & care dealing with cancer.

Urology

They were very kind and gentle when they broke the news I had kidney cancer. Everything we needed was there, including a specialist nurse. The operation was arranged quickly, and all options were looked at with me & with reference to my difficult medical history. They were wonderful before and after the operation, and my ward was super. The selection of world foods was wonderful, I only wish I'd had a bigger appetite to enjoy it. They made the scariest time of my life easier and I can't thank them enough for it.
